Chapter 17 I Like You Too…

“Eh…uh…I…I can’t show you this-” The girl stuttered. Sasuke rolled his eyes at her playfully…and then froze, sitting straight up. There was a rustling outside the tent.

“GET DOWN” Sasuke suddenly whispered harshly, Pushing Hikari under the covers and pulling his own over himself.

"Mmmmpffff!" Sasuke held his hand over her mouth and the two lie still. One utterly confused and startled, the other sweating and breathing hard.

Ziiiiiiiiiiiiip

The entrance to the tent opened up and Kotori walked in. Staring straight at the two skeptically. “Hmmmmm…” She mumbled, crouching down and poking Sasuke’s side repeatedly…otherwise known as his “tickle spot”.

‘CRAP!’ The Uchiha held his eyes shut tight, trying not to burst into uncontrollable laughter. ‘Dammit!’ After whet seemed like forever…Kotori left the tent as randomly as she entered, re-zipping the door and walking away. Hikari immediately flew up gasping for air. Sasuke slowly rose, panting also.

“Dude?! What the hell was that all about?!” She said.

“Shhhhuuushhhh!” Sasuke’s head jerked beck to the door, watching it as if it were about to explode. “Ok, look. I’m sorry!” He was talking quietly but sternly. “Kotori thinks we’re both asleep…she’ll kill us-” He paused for a second and thought. “…ok, Maybe she’ll just kill me…but still she’ll be so pissed if we’re awake still.”

“Oh…” She answered, not knowing how to reply.

---------

“Alright Naruto, Shizu. They’re both asleep. I guess we should just go swimming without them.” Kotori sighed, sitting on a log. It’ll do them good to get a good sleep…Especially Sasuke. He really hasn’t had a good rest for a week.

“Ok…” Shizu grabbed her bag and pulled her suit out. “But it looks like it’s gonna rain soon. Doesn’t it?”

“It’s fine. We’ll just go swim until we hear thunder or something. Sasuke and Hikari will be in the tent anyways so it’s not like they’re gonna get all wet” Kotori smiled, grabbing her suit.

“C’mon lets go!” Naruto was running down the path towards the river. Kotori slapped her hand to her forehead and followed. Shizu was behind her, giggling.

--------

“Pffft…”

“What?”

“Snort.”

“What? What’s so funny?!”

“Pfffffftttt.”

“HIKARI!”

“Its…pfft…your…your hair!” at that instant Hikari burst into hysterics as Sasuke sat…utterly confused.

“Ehm……W-what?” Hikari was still laughing.

“I just realized…It…It looks like a chicken’s ASS!” She grinned, trying to hold in another laughing fit.

“Oh my god…” Sasuke…wasn’t impressed. Showing his displeasure by slapping a hand to his head and slinking back under the covers. Hikari stopped laughing and tilted her head, barely making out a small, pathetic; “…Why…?” Coming from within the sleeping bag.

“Aww…C’mon Sasuke…” She said. “I was just play’n with ya…”

“………”

“What?”

“…i-..n-t..funn-…”

“Eh…Sasuke?”

“It’s not funny!” He loudly exclaimed, pulling the covers further up. “I…It’s just like that.” He mumbled. “I’ve tried gel …it’s not pretty…” Hikari rolled her eyes and yanked the blanket back down. She jumped on top of him, sitting firmly and grinning evilly. “Oh great….” He muttered. “Another Kotori to wake me up in the mornings.” The boy huffed…She was surprisingly light for her age...

“Do you know how fun you are to annoy?” she said, still smirking. Sasuke raised an eyebrow at her and laughed…Remembering how he always said the same thing to Kotori when they were little. Abruptly turning on his side after realizing what he had just done. This, sending Hikari tumbling to the ground.

-Insert long, awkward pause here-

“…Hey…” Sasuke muttered.

“Hmm?” The girl retorted, rubbing her now probably bruised side.

“…You’re…you’re alright, Hikari…” Sasuke smirked, though she couldn’t see his face at the moment.

“Eh heh, thanks!” She blushed, feverishly scratching the back of her head. “I’m…I’m gonna go get some firewood to keep dry before it rains…” She said, walking out of the large 2 room tent. “By the way…I…like you too…Sasuke.” The comment faded as she walked away. Sasuke sat straight up in the tent, heart racing…

‘W-what did she just say?!’…no ones ever said anything like that to him before…“Did…did she mean-”

---------

Rumble

“Aw man!” Naruto exclaimed, plopping a seat in the shallow water and looking disdainfully to the sky…which was becoming increasingly cloudy and dark.

“Alright guys…we probably have like…5 minuets max before it starts pouring.” Kotori sighed.

“I say we leave now…” Shizu was balancing on a relatively skinny branch of a tree settled next to the stream, its branches extending over the whole river. “The camp is over 15 minuets away ya know.”

Rumble, trickle

“Um…ok…” The violet-haired Kunoichi agreed as it started to rain lightly.

FLASH …Rumble… FLASH

“AGH! Go go go!” Naruto shouted, running for the forest.

“What’s his problem?” Kotori tilted her head, pointing to the fading figure clad in green swimming shorts.

“He’s…scared of thunder storms…” Shizu rolled her eyes and followed the boy. “…oh and ghosts..” The girl giggled.

-------

Sigh…

Sasuke was lying under the covers, resting his head back on his arms. Thinking, his eyes wandered aimlessly around the tent. Eventually landing on Hikari’s sketchbook. “Hmmm…” He ginned, reaching for it. “Wait…” He hesitated “No, I shouldn’t do this…That would be wrong……but…” He stared at the book for several moments, trying to hold back his natural curiosity. “Maybe just a quick look.” He mumbled, slowly opening its pages.

Between it’s worn covers, the book held many extravagant drawings of animals and people, including a very nice portrait of him and even one of Naruto. Intrigued, he continued flipping through the paper, stopping short on the last page. “Wh-what the…” His eyes widened at the drawing. “No way…How does she-”

Hikari unzipped the tent and trudged in, looking bummed. “Argh…Great…I’m friggin’ soaking wet and now the wood’s ruined t-” Hikari cut herself off and stared at the boy. Sasuke froze looking straight at her, sweat running down his head and slamming the book shut. Unfortunately…The Kunoichi already saw what page he was looking at. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

“I…I…” The Uchiha stuttered he felt his breath shortening and his heart racing. “Y-you…you’re…But…H-how…”
